"And in the morning, you will see the glory of the Lord." Exodus 16:7a (NIV)

I think I’m stuck! Seven months pregnant, I was stuck in the window trying to enter my own house because once again, I’d locked myself out. My broad daylight break-in suddenly became frightening.
You’ve probably heard the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get a different result.
When I became single (many years ago), I began to lock my home for the first time. At the time, I had a one-year-old, and I was pregnant with my second baby. I’ll not argue with the concept that I can be an airhead at times. This was particularly true of that season, since everything in my life was in upheaval.
Being only 23 years old meant that crawling through the bathroom window did not seem like an athletic feat . . . until it was. One of the problems with this plan was that the bathroom used for access was at the front of the house. My home sat on a busy residential street across from an elementary school. Consequently, I offered a full-on ugly view of my backside to passersby. Furthermore, anyone who noticed might think I was breaking and entering. Well, I guess I was.
As my belly swelled with the baby inside, this window passage became less and less desirable as an entry point.
The day I got stuck, first I laughed. Next, a little panic set in. Finally, the reality of the risk my actions presented to both my unborn child and me sobered me to a better option. Just stop locking yourself out, Joni.
Is there something that you habitually do that puts you and those you love at risk? Don’t get stuck in a compromising situation. Make a better choice. It’s much easier than trying to make amends, and it frees up your time to do something you really want to do.
Here’s to better choices. Whether it’s a small choice or a big one, consciously shifting to a better option can streamline today and create space for something meaningful.
“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)
